Where it all started– Fitiria’s story

Raf Ghabrial first became interested in medical aid when he met a local lady Fitiria’s story . . .

After the tsunami of 2005 Fitiria and her husband lost their home at Sorake and had to move to a village behind the coast with their family of 5 children. I met Fitiria through word of mouth through a regular visitor to Nias, Matt from Queensland. After planning and fundraising through Go Fund Me, and with the help of Mark Flint, we eventually flew Fitiria and her daughter to Sydney for surgery at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

All went well and you can see the story here...

I recently took an artificial eye to Nias and it fitted perfectly, giving Fitiria much greater self-esteem and enabling her to return to work.

Fitiria’s daughter, Febrianis proved to be a very capable carer and speaks English very well. She has expressed interested in training to be a nurse after her experience with the medical system. We are currently looking to raise her university fees in Medan for the next four years at $2500 per year.
